Win Tickets to see Red Cliff!
July 10th 2009 03:36
Doves. Lots of Doves.
That’s what I think of when someone throws hot coffee into my lap and yells “John Woo!”
It’s fair to say that Woo has had a chequered history when it comes to the Hollywood portion of his oeuvre, but his new film Red Cliff recently destroyed the Chinese box office and marked a glorious homecoming for the die-hard stylist.
It’s now past the midway point of the year and a long wait for one of the premiere releases of 2009 Australian schedule is set to come to an end with the July 23 local unleashing of Red Cliff.
20/20 Filmsight is ruthlessly conspiring with Icon Films to give away five double passes, valid nationally, to super-secret preview screenings over the weekend of July 17-19.
For the lucky winners, the passes will be mailed out next week, along with instructions to get to the secret island and a valet ticket for your launch/catamaran/hovercraft/ hydrofoil.
Sorry - unfortunately this giveaway is for Australian residents only.

Like you said it is base on a true story,
Its setting is around 2000BC where a Chinese General sieze dictatorship over China through military might and try to secure his own power.
The General destroyed China's long tradition of a goverment that gain power through a constitute, settle by Confuti ideology, which believe that the goverenment including the Emperor to be merely a publci servent who has to work in public interest.
The General turned the Emperor, the Emperor's administration and the Senate, who are gain their power through the contitute and is bond by it to work in public interest and has been working in public interest, into a mere puppet and eventually even dismiss the Emperor's administration and form his own administration with him as the head of the goverment, the senate and the Emperor on the other hand who are now puppet, had to pass every bill that the General want to pass.
However, the General's influence did not reached Southern China, so under the leadership of the two Southern State Governors the people of the Southern State joined force to defend their homeland against invaders from the North,
One of the most recognizable Governor was Bar Lu, because dispite been a prince, Lu was acutally elected by the people to the position of govern after the original governor died, because his excellent work of serving the previous governor and to rule in public interest, when he was still just the Premier.
The concept of Royalty was not a concept that exist in Acient China and nobel title is really just a formality, which is no different from our reference to a President's wife as first lady,in prior to getting into politic Lu was originally only a farmer, he was the fourth cousin of the Emperor, who has no relationship with the Emperor or the Senate
For the record most of the governor and premier are not member of the royal family and the governor Lu original served, was not a member of the Royal family either

Jesus Would Not Approve
I'm sorry to post it here under this blog somewhat randomly, but as Cibby used to run this blog I thought it would be a fairly visible place to put this comment. I can't gain access to the writer's forums or anything like that because I can't log in.
Can anyone shed light on this?

Not my usual style of movie - but I thoroughally enjoyed it.
Great cinematography, scenary, action packed from go to whoa. (lots of blood & guts - why it's not my normal style). Even forgot I was reading subtitles - once again thanks.
