Win double passes to see Newcastle, an upcoming Australian surf movie!
October 19th 2008 22:21
I first heard of "Newcastle" when it opened at the Sydney Film Festival... one of the festival organizers was cooing over the film, as she was from the region, but had rarely seen it shown in full cinema colours.
It's a city full of industrial works, shipping ports, and miles of carefree waves, just waiting for surfers to try and match the raw hydro-power of the ocean.
"Newcastle" is a coming-of-age film centered around three dudes; one that failed to make it as a pro surfer, and his younger brother, who possibly has the skills to leave his blue-collar future behind, forever posing for surf magazine covers. The tagline of the movie is "You're only young forever... once", a grim reminder that the rest of us are past our prime. I'll never be a pro-surfer, ebony-skinned, hard-muscled, with adoring fans throwing me bottles of energy drinks and bikini tops.
Nevertheless, "Newcastle" is a chance for you to suspend your mind from the heavy limbs of your true body... experience the elation of riding those crystal blue waves, awe at the immense power of the ocean, and the thrill of adolescent love.
It's a local production, with young, unknown actors, and plenty of breathless shots of that unbelievable Australian sky, so pure and blue, it could be a reflection of a tranquil ocean.
The film is on the tipping point of a nationwide theatrical release, coming out on November 6th, and 20/20 Filmsight is sending you to see the film!
Simply send an email to cibbuano AT orble DOT com, with your name and address, along with the answer to this question: What is the name of one of the brothers in the film? This competition is now closed - thanks to everyone that entered!
