Stevie Wonder - So What the Fuss?

May 7th 2006 00:59
Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder (from Wikipedia)
I've been a big Stevie Wonder fan for a long time... he's widely acknowledged as a musical genius, and I used to play 'Superstition' in my sets on Retro Night.

He's been pretty quiet for the past couple of years, just smiling on award shows and making the odd cameo.

This weekend, I was stretching in front of the TV on Saturday morning, watching, and despising, one of those music video shows.

To my surprise and delight, the new Stevie Wonder track, 'So What the Fuss', came on and infused me with coca-leaf energy and bliss.

The song is hot - a driving beat, with a P-Funk style bassline, ripped into paper shreds by Stevie's diamond-tipped voice. It brought me to my feet and shook me like a ragdoll.

With the video, it's even better, with party shots of beautiful people with perfect skin, winding and grinding on a dancefloor. After all, as Stevie sings:

"If I'm caught at a dance party without my dancin shoes
And everybody dances on my bare feet
Shame on me"

OH I forgot all about this song, I'm still caught up in his old school stuff. Dang he's still going strong and producing tight tracks. Thanks for the link Cibby.

Stevie, james Brown and Michael Jackson - it's like the Holy Trinity of hip hop sampling...!

His old stuff is incredible... it's amazing that his sound hasn't changed much, but he can't see how the world has changed either..

Mmm listening to his music is like drinking hot chocolate on a winter night. This Saturday night the Basement is doing a Stevie Wonder tribute night just in case anyone's interested.

that basement show looks like a lot of fun...

Stevie tracks are great to play live, with that phat bass and the great lyrics..
