Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation
July 12th 2007 18:31
I've heard of this before, but the recent news on this made me even more interested in this film.
When Raiders of the Lost Ark came out in 1981, a group of three 10-year-old boys fell in love with it and decided to make a shot-for-shot adaptation of the film.
They used ingenious tricks to simulate the special effects, with boy scouts acting as Nazis, and it took seven summer vacations to finish the project, which is now known as Raiders of the Lost Ark:The Adaptation.
It doesn't seem that big a deal now, but back in '81, the kids had to go to the movie over and over again, sneaking in audio recorders to get a hold of the lines, and memorizing the scenes to later relay them to their project.
Such dedication and passion cannot go unheard, though... it's become a cult offering, with select showing in cities in the States. Steven Spielberg got a copy and loved it, inviting the boys to come to the studio to meet him. Of course, they're now in their 30s...

Here's a report from the BBC, with footage from the movie, showing how well the boys recreated the original film!

amazing stuff! What a creative talented bunch of kids! I love all the Raider movies myself, and found myself going to see each one about ten times before they came out on disc...
LOL
And I can still quote dialogue from each picture!
Lmfao...I'd love to see this flick in it's entirety...looks like they followed the original pretty damned well! And I'm so glad that Spieberg isn't getting on his high horse about infringement...makes him seem like a pretty decent guy to me...
All I can say is...ya gotta love Indy...I also hear that Sean Connery and Harrison Ford really want to do another Raider movie together...
I saw Connery on Letterman when 'League' came out and he said he and Ford have discussed it...He said he'd love to do another Raiders before he dies...
LOL
Hell, I'd pay to go see it!
Great read...loved the video...
Take care,
Nick

I had not heard of this. What a gas! My son is in film school so I try to stay on top of all that celluloid! I talked to my son and he eye rolled (VIA of cell)...of course he knew of it.... Thanks for the fun post! I always root for the underdog!
