Quentin Tarantino looking to remake Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

July 1st 2008 23:12
Cartoon Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

"Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" is Russ Meyer's most notable contribution to popular culture, a movie about three busty go-go dancers who go on a wild road rampage. It has inspired countless musicians and filmmakers, with John Waters claiming that it is "the finest movie ever made".

Sadly, I've never seen it, though I am a fan of Meyer's lunatic sexploitation films. He was a dedicated big-breast fetishist and made films that featured excessively endowed women, cavorting and bouncing. Yet, it would be hard to say that he wasn't a talented filmmaker, with a dedicated, singular vision, and a fine use of colour and timing.

I'm an unabashed fan of the Roger Ebert-scripted "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls", a furiously satirical look at the movies that try to distill youth culture into a stinking pot of excess and despair. Check out this wild musical number, with looks and winks fluttering in and out of the frame.

Well, Quentin Tarantino definitely has a passion for Meyer's work, so much that he wants to remake "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" - and the rumour is that Tera Patrick, notable adult film star, is in talks to lead the movie. Patrick is definitely busty enough to play the part, and she even has a similar dark-haired look:

A post on /Film asks for comments on the selection of Patrick for the film, noting that Tera Patrick suggested that she's "built for this part".

One of the commenters points out an important factor:

"“Tera’s boobs are fake, though. Wouldn’t it behoove the creator of a Russ Meyer remake to find naturally big breasted ladies?”"

Only Tarantino or Rodriguez could do this project justice. Meyer's original, in it's own way, was one of the great film's of the 60's. Shockingly, I've yet to see Beyond The Valley of the Dolls, though Motorpsycho is another classic from Meyer's.

I'm in ... I just trust Tarantino's judgement, false boobs and all. Only question: can she actually act, since porn is well... not really acting is it?

I would be shocked if this went ahead as Death Proof (Grindhouse) failed financially.
Plus we’re still waiting for the remake of Inglorious Bastards QT!

triple B, check out Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Most people would find it excessive and bewildering, but I loved the dizzying scenes and the faux-sentamentality.

joanne - I'd definitely watch it, but no fake boobs, please! Meyer hated the idea, he felt it was like cheating.

Adam, yeah, Inglorious. And the real Kill Bill? Where does QT get his funding from?

Tera's a great choice. Overall I'm a bigger fan of her work before she "had them done" (it IS cheating) but real mccoys that gargantuan are tough to come by these days. Besides, she's the best actress on the planet. Take that, Helen Mirren!

kelly, ha ha. Before she had them done? I think we'll need to see pictures!

Yes, big boobs are tough to come by, which is why Russ Meyer used the same actresses over and over - he was obsessed!

*L*I don't think acting was a consideration of Russ Meyer! I've never seen the movie in it's entirety with but I find it hard to sit through and entire Russ Meyer film! I watched two just to say I did and I've seen clips on the web but, it's a good thing I like movies, because otherwise it would have been a waste of time but, if you like film, you MUST study Russ Meyer!

Despite what I just said, I look forward to the remake and will DEFINITELY see it!

Tarantino could do this justice, but Rodriguez could also do it too, and, arguably, better. I totally agree that they would need to cast someone naturally endowed. Russ would turn in his grave if they used a fake-breasted woman, I'm sure! Tera does have a natural charisma, but I think somoeone more exotic looking is required, almost otherwordly looking ...

God, I can't believe I am the only one who thinks this is a horrible idea. He needs to leave classics alone! He should make his own exploitation flix not sully the genius of Tura Stana. Ugh..
I'm sick of remakes period!

Squid, actually I agree with you, Tarantino should stop raiding the past and concentrate and inventing his own future ...
