Possible Worlds: the 2007 Canadian Film Festival
November 21st 2007 12:30
It was Tracy who got me into the festival... though I lived near the Chauvel Cinema last year, I didn't attend Possible Worlds, and only found out about it after Tracy enthusiastically posted about it on her site.
The Canadian Film Festival highlights some of the great movies coming out of Canada every year... being north of the big pie called the US (of A), Canadian cinema often gets overlooked, especially by me, a Canadian.
It just always seemed easier to go to the cinema to watch the latest offerings from Asia or Europe, rather than a dirty ol' stinky Canadian movie, which would probably play free on CBC, anyway.
Well, no more. I've been given the chance to review several of the festival's movies, and they look fantastic. One that I've seen earlier this week, a documentary called Manufactured Landscapes, was an eye-opening horror of the picturesque realities of civilization.
The Canadian Film Festival runs from Nov. 29th to Dec. 5th, with some wonderful films, such as Weirdsville and Monkey Warfare. It's definitely an exciting time to be attending festivals, as the summer gets kicked into high gear...
I also reviewed indie favourite, Monkey Warfare, a terrific movie about two has-been activists, who collect junk on bicycles and sell it over the internet.
I'll be attending the opening night gala with the Australian premiere of Who Loves The Sun.
