New Dark Knight Trailer
May 4th 2008 23:09
The new Batman movie is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, especially after star actor, Heath Ledger, was found dead in NYC last year.
Ledger starred as the Joker, a notorious villain in the comic book scene, a villain with a perverted sense of humour and an infinite well of cruelty. Batman is to be played by Christian Bale, a well-respected actor, and Two-Face by Aaron Eckhart.
It all looks good on paper, but fans were still dubious about the franchise... after all, Batman sold out in the widely reviled "Batman and Robin" which featured, among many things, bat-nipples.
The trailer for "The Dark Knight" looks like the film will be a success, with out-of-control action scenes, comic-book-style dialogue and a faint memory of Jack Nicholson's Joker. No?
For me, it's a little bit of a disappointment, since the movie channels a comic series, Batman: The Last Halloween, instead of the Frank Miller series, The Dark Knight Returns.
While both series offer a grim look at Batman and his Gotham environment, I was anticipating the dirty vengeance and old-man-rage from Miller's brilliant work.
Still, this is likely to thrill blockbuster fans:

It was well crafted from every angle.
(except for the embarrassing "everyone go home" scene). Batman was more edgy and motivated which I liked.
I hope that they make this one in a similar style.

This is definitely one of the big events in the American summer. I still need to watch Batman Begins!

Damo, what do you mean by the "embarrassing" 'everyone go home' scene? You mean the fact that it was supposed to be embarrassing to the characters, or that you found it embarrassing nonetheless (if that makes sense)? I really liked that scene myself. IMHO Bale is good as Batman but excellent as Wayne. He has the superficial charm and the insouciance to pull it off. And he can act like a moron when he has to.
Cibbuano, I also like Miller's Batman, but that's very 80s, if you know what I mean. I can't see it being done in a feature film, for some reason. Not glamourous or sexy enough for audiences, perhaps.
Also, I might be the only person in the world to think this, but Nicholson's Joker was terrible. Just...way off. Nicholson fans, don't hate me!

Miller's Batman was a little 80s, but I don't think that makes it inaccessible as a film. If anything, I'd say that Miller's predictable tone would make it less sexy.

for me a hard one to pick on so many levels... Nicholson Vs Ledger, and Batman Returns was a REALLY good film... maybe too hard an act to follow for Bale?
Most of all, perhaps the hardest thing to overcome ... high expectations!
I agree, lots at stake here ...

Maybe in 20 years when Christian bale is a crusty old man, we might get it (ala Indiana Jones).

Heath Ledger looks to be the most promising addition to the Dark Knight movies! I can't wait! Damn shame he is gone.
And remember . . . Robin sucks.

JD - I've got Begins at home, just haven't watched it yet!
mystro, Yang, you'll get your chance to see it, soon!
Brad - you're absolutely correct, of course. When I heard the title, I assumed it would reflect the Miller comics, but Nolan clearly has his own timeline.
Louie - trailers are their own work of art
goovies - I'm happy with Nolan ignoring Robin...
