Kevin Spacey is an impersonator
August 12th 2008 23:36
It's well known that Kevin Spacey has a natural talent for impersonating other people. I say natural talent, because it seems so easy to us - in reality, it indicates the hours that Spacey has put in, watching his favourite actors, over and over.
There are Hollywood actors that rose to the top because of their look, or good luck in auditions, but the ones that have actually made it their craft - well, these are the actors that inspire us.
Lynden Barber reminds us why Spacey is one of those actors that we love to watch:
I first saw Spacey in "Swimming with Sharks", an excellent movie about the cruel, dog-eat-dog world of Hollywood management. There's no room for weak people, and Spacey plays the hardest executive we've ever seen.
Spacey was interviewed by Andrew Denton for Enough Rope, and here he talks about what he does to impersonate another person, revealing that it's more about trying to understand the way that their mind works:
Of course, Barber also posted another video, which I've also posted before, of an interviewer that confuses John Cusack for Kevin Spacey, reminding us that it's a good idea not to send idiots to interview the few actors that we respect:
It's bad enough that she gets it wrong the first time, but she just insists over and over, Cusack having to defend himself from the charge of being Kevin Spacey.

"Interviewer: What's the one with all the rose petals?
John Cusack: I'm not in that.
I: That's not you?
JC: No.
I: Really?
JC: No.
I: Really?
JC: Swear to God."

As for the girly-girl interviewing John Cusack - god save us from pretty girls who end up with real jobs.

Kevin Spacey is one of the few actors who will draw me to any move he is in. He has done so many different roles and I love him in every one.
American Beauty is one of my favourites. But I first spotted him in "The Usual Suspects" some years earlier. If you haven't seen it, I can recommend it.
I also happen to like John Cusack but confusing the two?? Enough said.
