New Star Trek poster makes the movie look interesting...
July 21st 2008 00:16
Update (12/08/08): They've released a new set of posters, this time with Simon Pegg and John Cho as Scotty and Sulu, respectively. See all four posters here.
Hmm, I'm getting increasingly interested in this film, mainly because of the cast, but also because I was never that much of a Star Trek fan, and this looks like it's carrying some energy. Also, Simon Pegg means geeks gone wild.
I not a big Star Trek fan... sure, I've seen the TV show, both the original and the Next Generation, but they cast a pitiful glow compared to the megalithic altar that was Star Wars.
In my childhood mind, Han Solo always beat Captain Kirk.
I watched The Next Generation more than anything else, but I have to admit most of it was for watching Deanna Troi in that one-piece. And a little bit of Tasha Yar, who was popular among our little pack of adolescent boys but now, it's obvious, was a early model of the Hillary Clinton look.
There's a new Star Trek movie coming out, directed by J.J. Abrams and simply called "Star Trek"; it has fans and non-fans excited with the casting announcement and the secrecy on the project.
I took one look at the above poster and I was interested. Old school sci-fi, back again? Do we need this revisit to a series that may have been evolved out of our tastes?
To me, the key to this movie is that it should look as old fashioned as the original series. The costumes, the aliens, the blinking lights on the consoles. Give us that old look, and we'll watch it for the style!

"While no Star Trek panel will take place at Comic Con 2008, Paramount Pictures is releasing four new character teaser posters. The four posters feature (from left to right) Eric Bana as a unnamed villain, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, and Zachary Quinto as Spock. The posters combine to form the Starfleet federation logo. "

Film & TV on DVD
I was going to post this one today...it is a cool looking poster...I'm still not sold on the film though because everything JJ Abrams has done bores me.

I grew up on Star Trek.
So to compare it with Star Wars is like comparing a 1950's movie with Star Trek. The styling of the set and the characters are drawn from different Archetypes. Han is the classic Cynic with a heart of gold and Kirk is faithful and Beloved leader.
Yet we all grow up and i am wondering if this Star Trek franchise has milked its cash cow far too long.

Wrath of Khan was good and the one with the Borge was good. First Contact I think it was called.
The rest were forgettable.

I think most of the episodes were not so good, but there were those few that made the series seem brilliant. And, particularly, it was all about Spock for me. I liked Dr. McCoy, moslty because he highlited Spock's character. Kirk was good, but I don't like Shatner. Scotty and Checov were adorable, but their characters were too small.
Star Trek's got elements to make this new movie successful.
I also liked the "retro" feeling of the poster...

I am a life long Star Trek fan. I have seen all of the reincarnations of the Star Trek franchise. I am looking forward to the next installment in all of it's glory!
