Jeff Bridges in Tron 2

July 28th 2008 22:48
tron lightcycles
"Tron" was the movie that launched us into computer graphics in cinema... Jeff Bridges played the part of a dude trapped in a computer, where they played with lightcycles and frisbees, apparently. I haven't seen it since the 80s,but it left a strong mark on me, one of those movies that made you wonder, what would it be like to live in my computer?

Certainly, "Tron" looked more fun than the games I could actually play on my computer, which included Pac-man and Q-bert.

A sequel to "Tron" has been announced, with a teaser trailer leaked onto YouTube. Wikipedia calls the film, "TR2N", stating that the old Jeff Bridges and the young Jeff Bridges would star in the movie. What?

Hmph. I tried looking for the Tron 2 teaser trailer, but it's been removed by YouTube. Oh, wait, here it is.

Looking good, isn't it?

Hi Cibbuano,

Wow, I loved the original. The video game was even better. I was so addicted to the game I felt like I did live in a computer for a few years because of it! The light cycles was of course the best stage of the game. lol

I think I would even spend the small fortune to go see a sequel in the theater, rather than waiting for it to hit video. I can only imagine what they could do with it in this day of CGI and technology.

BTW, i clicked the link to the youtube trailer, but it was just about "Tron Guy" and included a Rick Astley video. lol (In case that wasn't intentional)

I must be the only person who hated the original movie.

My suspension of disbelief was arguing with the rational thinking part of my mind. It just sucked all the pleasure out of the movie for me.

Nothing personal, I must be the odd one out.

Damo, I don't even remember much of the movie, except that I liked it. I'll have to rewatch it some day... worth it to see an early Jeff "The Dude Lebowski" Bridges...

Two Guy Sports - ho ho ho! Sorry, man, you just got Rick Rolld!

I had to pass it on, since I got suckered, too.

lol Cibbuano,

I always despised Rick. I just can't look at him without thinking how he is the love child of Howdy Doody and OpieTaylor (from Andy Griffith Show).

Hi Cib,

As for Tron I purchased the superb DVD remaster last year and what seemed like a blur of ideas originally now seems to operate on a level more a kin to modern audiences.

I wont say it was ahead of its time but i will say that what attracted me to it as a child was the visuals, now they look better than ever.

The trailer for Tron 2 makes me think we could have another visual feast on our hands...where the computer graphics are actually neccessary.

P.S - The Last Starfighter was actually the first movie to use CGI effects.

D'oh! Rick always looks like a 12-year-old to me, dunno why.

Well, I vaguely remember Tron, but I'd be more surprised by a sequel than I would by a remake. IT could be fun, I spose...

two guys, there's a reason people like to prank with that Rick video...

JD, ah! The Last Starfighter! Wow, it's been a while...

Bethany, we'll see if the sequel holds its own.

I watched Tron a little while ago and it was good, but not as good as when I was young.

I remember the old arcade version of the game as well, but I was not good at it.

Speaking of Jeff Bridges , I wrote an unsolicited script for a Starman sequel back in 1998. It was my first script and I quit college to finish it. It’s been gathering dust ever since. I sent it to Jeff Bridges and John carpenter, although I would prefer if Carpenter didn’t direct a sequel. I wrote some good f/x sequences and some interesting characters. I’m pretty sure I’ll never be involved, but I’d to see the f/x scene from the beach being incorporated, (Jeff’s manager Neil will know the one, totally plagiarised from another movie, but it would look great on film today). If anyone has any questions, email me at hansenfilm@yahoo.ie and I’ll answer them. (Although I won’t give away any plot points. And yes there is a son and indeed, I actually have the perfect casting suggestion!!
