Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse Trailer
June 11th 2008 22:55
Yesterday's post was about the new Kevin Smith flick, "Zack and Miri Make a Porno", featuring Seth Rogen, current comedy golden boy.
I'm not a huge fan of Rogen, though he suited the part in "Knocked Up" just fine. He's a one-dimensional character, though, and it seems as if Rogen can hardly believe that millions of people want to keep seeing him in movies where he swears and acts like a degenerate.
The upcoming "Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse" seems to be drawing a lot of attention, though, with Catherine Shoard in the Guardian Film Blog calling it '"I Am Legend" meets "The Odd Couple"', which is pretty much what the trailer gives us:
I'm not sure if Rogen saw "Shaun of the Dead", the impossibly witty zombie-rom-com from Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg, but he'll have to work pretty damn hard to top it. "Shaun of the Dead" delighted genre fans by staying true to the Romero standard, avoiding parody but creating its own workable narrative.
Rogen has so much player power in Hollywood right now that he could wrap a hot dog in discarded newspaper and people would line up around the block for it. From E! Online:
While fans are probably tickled with pleasure at a Rogen-controlled product, I'm quite pessimistic about this upcoming film. Does Rogen peeing into a bucket make this a stand-out movie?

"The flick is based on a comedy short written by Rogen and his Superbad coscribe Evan Goldberg. Apocalypse made a splash online last summer when a trailer for the would-be film surfaced on YouTube.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Rogen and Goldberg were also given full creative control and final cut over the pet project."
