Jack Nicholson is 70
April 22nd 2007 23:16
Jack Nicholson made a lot of good movies, and had roles that are ingrained in the collective subconscious of pop culture.
'All work and no play make Jack a dull boy'
With his 70th birthday, the UK newspaper The Guardian pays tribute to a great American actor, with kind words from his fellow actors and stars.
Born in New Jersey to a woman he thought was his sister(!), Nicholson got involved in film from the bottom-up, working at MGM as messenger boy.
It was his breakout role in Easy Rider as the pot-smoking lawyer that made audiences look twice at him, but Nicholson nailed great roles along the way to rise to meteoric fame.
"You can't handle the truth!"
He's been known to answer the door in the nude, and has been a big supporter of using Viagra to get his freak on. He almost never misses the LA Lakers when they play at home, and he was the Joker.
He's a weird guy, but unforgettable onscreen.
For a while, in his early career, he was nearly resigned to working as a screenwriter, as his acting career was going nowhere...
