Indian version of Sweet Child O' Mine
January 7th 2008 05:43
It's the ubiquitous party song from the late 80s/early 90s - Guns N' Roses put out this song, Sweet Child O' Mine, and it lit up the radio, with the screeching of Axl Rose and that liquidy guitar playing from Slash.
It was written about Axl's then-wife, Erin Everly, niece of one of the Everly Brothers, and the signature opening guitar riff was played by Slash as a joke. Who knew?
Everly and Rose filed for divorced one month after they got married, then reconsidered to stay together.. they'd end up getting the marriage annulled though. It doesn't sound like a 'sweet' story, but, back in '87, I guess Axl thought she was the one.
The song would be covered over and over, with Sheryl Crow, Fergie, Neneh Cherry and others performing their version... usually with less screeching.
In the latest incarnation of the song, a traditional Indian musical group does it, with a sitar, tablas and a croony singer singing the melody. My dad would love this.

I love the original 'Sweet Child O' Mine' to death, but I'd listen to it a lot more if not for the piss poor percussion and drums.
I don't even mind the screeching, if it had a more solid drum beat. I feel the singing is just too overpowering.
Kayleigh by Merillion, now THAT's a song I can listen to over and over again. The percussion and drum beat of that song goes straight to your heart.
