Hola Mexico Film Festival
November 8th 2007 21:58
Thanks for the heads up from Christian, an American blogger that covers Latino cinema.
The Hola Mexico Film Festival will go through 5 cities in Australia, including Sydney from Nov. 15th to 21st... the festival will take place in the wonderful Chauvel Cinema, which is the best venue in Sydney for watching great cinema.
With the talent coming out of the Mexican film industry in the past few years, this festival is very relevant. They'll be showing the first films of the Big Three: Alejandro Inarritu (Babel, 21 Grams), Guillermo Del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth) and Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men).
Del Toro's Cronos will be showing as part of the tribute, and I'm excited to see it, after much praise from JohnDoe... it's a twisted vampire tale with Del Toro's style printed all over it.
Christian also recommends Cronos, but also Never on a Sunday, a very interesting film about a man whose relative dies on Sunday, when all the funeral homes are closed. He's forced to deal with the body quickly and an avalanche of black comedy ensues. Looks terrific!
An excellent chance to catch up on some terrific Latin cinema!
