George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead Trailer
January 14th 2008 21:53
George A. Romero has a huge cult following ever since he single handedly invented the American zombie movie, which then crossed the seas to land in other, zombie-free lands.
His Dead Series contains four major releases, and, last year, he showed his newest offering at the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie is called "Diary of the Dead", and it's set to be released on Feb. 15, 2008.
Luckily, though, we've got a trailer for you to get a sneak peak:

It's been getting mixed reviews, with some critics loving the return to the genre, while others are weary of the entire concept.
Still, I love a good zombie movie, and Romero understands what audiences want to see in their films, I think. I liked "Land of the Dead", believe it or not, and I think that this trailer for "Diary" makes me want to see it, too.
Is it just me, or does this trailer feel like the Zack Snyder remake of "Dawn of the Dead"?
Here's the trailer for that movie, which came out in 2004:

stong words maybe!?....... fuck no!!
George Romero, who is responsible for the Zombie genre in the first place, and the amazing Dawn Of The Dead (original) has given all his fans a giant FUCK YOU with his latest offering Diary Of The Dead.
for those like me who wanted to see this movie to prove that the utter garbage that was Land Of The Dead was just a sad mistake and the one time horror master could get back on his game will be sadly devestated at this utter pile of shite which is undoubtedly the WORST movie i've ever seen!
From acting so bad that your not sure whether its a spoof movie to unbelievably dire dialouge to the waffer thin characters who are so tiresomely steriotypical (the usual hard jock type that wont believe whats going on around him: the blonde 'dont take no shit from anyone' cheerleader type ; the nervous geek with the oversized glasses ; the totally over the top in love couple :the old alcoholic professor with an obi wan english accent who at every point says something profound, quoting from some classic literature : and the black militant supremest, taking shit back now the 'ones without suntans are gone' he actually uses that line!!! and words cant express the sheer patheticness as when the deaf armish guy comes in.... yes... deaf armish guy!!)
while all the time directly butchering and downright stealing from other movies such as (the not very good but billions better than this) 28 weeks later , Resident Evil (games) and Bad Taste plus trying to cash in on Cloverfields sucess with the handheld camera idea but the dude is holding a camera filming a zombie 1 foot away from his as it chases a girl 10 feet away!! and it just ignores him! WHAT!! you fucking camera shy or something zombie!?? and she isn't bothered that he's more interested in getting a better shot that helping her......
and as if all that wasn't enough the thing that REALLY upset me was total disrespect for the rules to zombie movies that HE HIMESELF set out! a woman shoots herself in the head, she was NOT bit and she came back!! and Zombies (the shuffling kind not the 28 weeks ) are NOT so dangerous on their own, only in large groups, another of Romero's rules, yet the whole third act they're getting chased by just 1 zombie.
i seriously haven't put everything here, i'd need a lot more space
i write this because i love this genre of movies and it really pissed me off that the guy who kicked it all off could so blatently give a giant FUCK YOU to his fans with this utter pile of crap!
FUCK YOU George Romero!

I thought Land of the Dead was ok... sure, it fell apart in some ways, but it definitely felt like a continuation of Day.
I read an interview with Romero and he thought the handheld thing was a unique idea, but then Cloverfield came out and he was just one of a pack.
