Frank Miller's 300
September 25th 2006 17:47
After the success of Sin City, Frank Miller appears keen to put more of his trademark style on celluloid..
And who wouldn't like Sin City? With its heavy retro feel and murky shadows, Sin City stands as an incredible use of film as a comic-book medium, with just the right touch of violence, grit and flesh to seem lifted from back-alley pulp novels.
If that appeals to you, chances are you'll bite into 300, the adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name, to be released in 2007.
Frank Miller is well known for his obsession with the Spartans, a clan of Greeks that were known for upholding extreme tenets of Darwinism: weak babies and children were left to die, while only the strongest warriors would survive.
The movie/comic book reflects the Battle of Thermopylae, where a small army of 300 Spartans and 700 Thespians fought tooth-and-nail against an invading Persian army, hotly contested to be between 60 000 and 2 million soldiers strong.

The trailer gives you an idea of what Frank Miller had in mind... it's dark and nasty, just like the comic book, and director Zack Snyder shows his devotion to the original.
I'm looking forward to this film, but then, I've read all the Sin City books, and I liked the Dawn of the Dead remake. Maybe I'm not the one you should be listening to.

Ive been a fan of Miller comics for about 15 years now, my favourite is Hard Boiled.
I do think that 300 could make a mighty motion picture ion the right hands. The right hands being someone who is willing to keep in some of the more edgy stuff. Zack Snyder may be our man.

Frank Miller remains a genius however - without him, Batman Begins wouldn't be nearly as dark and interesting as it was. Plus, I've seen some stuff floating around for a while about 300, and its looking really good.
