Feverish Zoolander praise
June 23rd 2007 18:46
Zoolander is a comedy written and directed by Ben Stiller, who has nailed the 'it's-so-dumb-it's-funny' genre of comedy. It's the kind of comedy that college guys like to watch, because you can still laugh at it no matter how inebriated you are.
Zoolander. Hmmm. Hell, I liked it. And I even thought it had a refreshing script, with slick, MTV-style editing and a vibrant soundtrack.
But Zoolander, by no stretch of the imagination, is a masterpiece or a classic. Even Ben Stiller would laugh at that suggestion. No, it's a hard-working comedy that received a lot of praise, and now is injected into our social sense of humour.
That's not what these fans would have you believe:
"zoolander is a classic i remember me andmy freind jack watched it like three days in a row the times we watched it were spur of the moment and youve gotta be in the mood to watch it other whys you dont apreciate it andyes it can get boring but who watches a film for than 3 times in a month any film gets boring that way cause you no whats gonna happen and its still fresh in your mind so it willl be boring
well ive hadmy rant"
No punctuation makes for an excellent comment. Like three days in a row. Totally spur of the moment. Yes, it can get boring. So it will be boring.
The internet brings us all together. In one, big, dank-smelling, neon-lit, cracked mucus-painted room.

With you on this one. Stiller is certainly hit and miss. Thought Something About Mary was tremendous, Starsky and Hutch, Keeping The Faith and Night at the Museum a little underrated - and Along Came Polly and Dodgeball - hugely overrated.
Succinct post - with a nice little sting in the tail.

Thanks, Yoda, that's something I've been meaning to learn for ages now. And I did it on a Sunday too, I think I get extra points for effort.
Hi Cib
This is a film that I've meant to see a million times before and still haven't done it. The cover is vividly etched in my mind and I don't know why I haven't done it...'tis a mystery,

I like tlcorbin's addition to your final paragraph:
But I argue that unity is a consensual hallucination - we're all alone, and it's glorious.

- the use of 'Relax' as a musical theme throughout the movie.
- the intentional use of ridiculous fashion
- the quotable dialogue (almost too quotable)
- the fluctuation between slapstick and satire...
