Edge of Heaven at the German Film Festival
April 20th 2008 22:54
It's German cinema time in Sydney and Melbourne, with the impressive German Film Festival playing in both cities.
Unfortunately, I'm notoriously ignorant of German cinema, despite the excellent history and love of the medium in that country. For some reason, German films get much less attention than French or Spanish cinema.
Still, now is a great time to check things out: Lynden Barber reminds us that there are fantastic films on, with his Festival blog, and his review of "The Edge of Heaven" is nothing less than gushing.
This is a movie that won best screenplay last year at Cannes, and was Germany's entry for the 2007 Foreign Film Oscar.
The trailer makes the film look fast-paced, chaotic and irrepressibly human...

I love them.
I plan to see And Along Come Tourists, one about the development of Auschwitz concentration camp into a 'tourist' attraction and this guy that is now a local guide there.

Wayne, great - have a good time. I don't think Edge of Heaven is playing on Thursday, though. First film festival? You're missing out... what a terrific experience!

Thanks for introducing me to Fatih Akin - his work looks fascinating. Have you seen any of his short films?
I'm sure they'd go deep into territory we love exploring (faith & film). Just wondered if you had any recommendations.
Keep up the blog.

Faith and Film, eh? Some recommendations:
Bergman did a Faith Trilogy, I saw Through a Glass Darkly.

thanks for reading!

Weeping camel - that's new to me. Thanks.
OK, add one extra degree of difficulty - SHORT FILMS that challenge and spark spiritual engagement. That's what WE do
I continue to plug away - I know there's a pile of them out there.
I appreciate your response.

Film & TV on DVD
Fritz Lang was revolutionary and contributed as much to the shape of cinema as any Director...dare you to watch Jörg Buttgereit's Schramm, its liek nothing else I have ever seen
