Dame Diana Rigg from The Avengers
July 14th 2008 23:37
If you've ever watched The Avengers, the British espionage series from the 60s, you probably suffered from the same ailment that I did, where you can't take your eyes off Diana Rigg, who plays Emma Peel in the television series.
This photo was found on one of my favourite sites on the web, the strangely named If Charlie Parker Was a Gunslinger. A commenter on this post nails the magnetism that Riggs carried on the show:
When I was a kid, they showed reruns of all these old 70s shows, and I watched them all... the campy Batman series, The Green Hornet and Get Smart. Back then, spies were easy to hold as lead characters. All they needed was the ability to talk their way into anything and a little bit of caution.
Here's a little taste, a clip from the show, with Emma Peel looking dangerously tasty and markedly elegant:
Whew...
Now, with the revitalization of the Bond franchise and the Bourne-series, espionage has become high tech, mashed together with fast-paced kung fu, attempting to inject the audience with as much adrenaline as possible.
Riggs also starred as a Bond girl, in the one strange blip, "In Her Majesty's Secret Service", as Tracy Bond. That's right - Diana Rigg was the only Bond girl to successfully nab and keep James Bond, marrying him on the beach, if I'm correct (am I?)... for this remarkable achievement, Rigg was given the title of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
Naturally, though, in American detective movies, the title of 'dame' is thrown around with a cigarette half-perched on your lips, linguistic partners with 'broads' and 'goils'.

"Seriously...who else could look as fetching with every inch of skin (save her hands) beneath her chin covered?"

Thanks Cib,
mmmmmm, Diana Rigg was the reason I had to shell out and buy the Avengers Box Set, a classy treat!
She was a fanatastic Bond girl too. For me On Her majesties Secret Service is one of the best Bond Stories, shame George Lazenby was no 007!\

Fobzy, she represents the look of that time, for me. Those old clips still sizzle today, though...
Tracy, the car? Which one?
