Boxing Day presents: DVDs for everyone!

Spoutblog wants you to get DVDs as Christmas presents, but that's an obvious choice, one that shows how little you enjoy shopping for people. I should know - I buy DVDs for everyone I know.

And I'm a little evil, I know... I get my friends DVDs that I want to watch, then invite myself over and drink their beer and eat their nachos (with Nacho cheese!).

The Spout's article does the thinking for you, giving you possible suggestions depending on what kind of personality your target has. They're kind of obvious picks, though, except for a few nuggets of pure gold, like "The Fall", which I haven't seen, but will try to give myself as a nice, fat Christmas present.

My argument is that, on Boxing Day, you can head out with the teeming masses and buy discounted bargain DVDs, then distribute them freely among second cousins and workmates.

Who better to get a double disc set of "Epic Movie" and "Date Movie" than Stan from Human Resources? It only cost you $4.99 and you don't know Stan's last name.

Your mother's friend's son, that's not your friend - why should you bust a nut getting him something nice? No, just tape "White Chicks" together with "National Treasure" and know that he'll probably watch them open-mouthed, guffawing in simplistic pleasure.

It's not all bad, too... those movies that you meant to see, but couldn't be bothered, snap them all up for low, low prices, then fast forward through to all the good parts. Even better, buy bargain bin DVDs of classic Golden Age movies and artsy European classics, but them up on your shelf and you'll acquire the look of someone that's well versed in the classics.

I mean, it looks great to own "Aguirre, Wrath of God", but you wouldn't want to sit through it, right? After all, "Legally Blonde" is on TV tonight and there's a tub of nacho cheese in the fridge. To further dissuade you, here's the torturous opening scene:

Welcome, Boxing Day!

What a great idea - watching all the DVDs before you give them away. I'd have to do my shopping much earlier though.
