Bill Gates on the Daily Show

February 1st 2007 04:47
Ow! You know Jon Stewart and his wise-crackin' friends are gaining cultural and political power when Bill Gates steps out of the mansion to get interviewed on the Daily Show!

Why is Bill Gates appearing on the Daily Show instead of, say, slathering himself with grape jelly and getting models wrapped in gold foil to eat it off?

Some might say it has to do with today's launch of Windows Vista, the new operating system from Microsoft. And that the internet is a-buzz with haters arguing that Vista is going to kill personal computing.

Or maybe Gates just really, really, really likes The Daily Show?

A comment on the video: Jon Stewart opens up by telling Gates that he's clueless about computers, but his questions are pretty sneakily clever, such as 'What does the F12 button do?' which was featured on Digg a while back, I believe...

A second comment: I'm halfway through the video, and Jon Stewart is in prime form, even for him. 'What? Jessica Simpson wants to go out with me? Click. Nooooooooooooo!'

Jon Stewart was in fine form!

I loved the comment about how does microsoft combat the 'worm people'.

Bill wasn't too bad either with his comment about using 14 year old to outsmart the 13 yr old worm creators.

One last thing:

Why is Bill Gates appearing on the Daily Show instead of, say, slathering himself with grape jelly and getting models wrapped in gold foil to eat it off?

This is what we can expect from you when you're a billionaire??

Cibby,

Thanks so much for this. Yeah, Bill Gates for me, he must now have a personal personality trainer, must have stretched the budget a little.

For a nerd he's looking decidedly attractive, well, quite personable anyway, well, actually, I think it's the Bank Account that's so attractive, you know how it is, well, perhaps not, but Kylie there she knows what it is all about.

Yeah, Vista for me, sometime or other.

meh, Vista is designed to trap people, really, truly, there is almost no reason why people shouldn't move to a Linux distro like Ubuntu, heck, even some native windows games are running on Linux.

Just running Ubuntu and I really don't see why anyone would want Vista, even the 3D vista enterface is matched by the Beryl desktop.

Bit sad that Bill didn't really recognise what Jon was alluding to with the "do you have any pets" comment straight away, but that just makes it even more fun. ; )

heh, actually I'm not so sure myself.

Also maybe Bill just laughed to go with the crowd, not to sound like he was bitter about it.

So what did he mean by pets?

Seemed very scripted and forced for the Daily Show to me...Bill definetly had the Vistas agenda and Jon stepped lightly, I laughed at the password deception...

On a side note Bill gates booked it as soon as the interview was over and the next nightthey satarised his ego driven exit from the building...excessively exagerrated for maximum effect

Ahmed, the pets thing was Jon Stewart trying to find out Bill Gates password in a clever and amusing way.

I saw this the other night, and I thought Bill Gates handled himself pretty well. Jon was pretty easy on him, but he doesn't tend to be too harsh on his guests.

Personally, I love getting my news from the Daily Show. It's like machine gun jokes interspersed with real data.

Yeah, I've seen that... and I've seen a lot of imitations! A great way to do a music video...
