A Realistic Jessica Rabbit
April 23rd 2008 00:39
Sure, I'll admit it - I like cartoon babes.
Yes, I know it's ridiculous, and ludicrous and strenuous and tenuous and all the other things that you're verbally spewing at me right now.
Yes, I know that cartoon babes are drawn by sad little geeks who have trouble relating to real women, so they draw them with impossible figures - huge breasts, tiny waists, lengthy legs - and then pose them in stupidly slutty armour/costumes.
I know, because I used to draw cartoon babes in middle school. What can I say? I'm that guy.
Of course, over the years, the pleasures of meeting actual women became known to me, and I stopped drawing superheroines. But I've never lost my admiration for a well-drawn female figure.
In fact, I'd easily admit that I think sketched women are much more attractive than the heavily-makeup'd, over-Photoshopped models that feature in those awful men's magazines. Those pictures are so transparently synthetic - at least comic book women have the sultry energy of hand drawn lines.
Of course, then, I liked Jessica Rabbit. How could I not? She possessed outrageous dimensions, her hair over one eye, those hips and those legs. We all did, even though all the girls in our Grade 8 class exclaimed disgust. We would have easily traded in all the girls in our class for a little celluloid time with Mrs. Rabbit (which was an erroneous belief - some of the girls in those classes turned out to be well-spoken, graceful, intelligent, beautiful women)
There's an artist called Pixeloo that generates semi-realistic photos of fictional characters. Here's his Homer Simpson:
Sure, ok. A little speed-freaky.
Pixeloo toned down the creep for the Jessica Rabbit render, though, and the result is pleasing:
As one commenter noted: "Va-va-va-voooom!"
Why aren't there more animated female leads?

I used to think it was weird that I found animated women attractive, but now I figure why fight it? Jessica and her ilk are foxes...all the more so for being so by-definition unattainable.
