A Guide to the Sydney Film Festival - guest post and links
May 26th 2008 23:41
We're just a couple of weeks away from the biggest cinematic event of the year, the Sydney Film Festival, and I'm injecting myself daily with oxyacetylene in preparation for the big burnout.
On Neerav Bhatt's blog, I wrote a guest post highlighting some of the film that I am interested in seeing, like Carlos Reygadas' "Silent Night" (pictured above), or "Tokyo Sonata", which was well-received in Cannes.

Another good resources for curious festival attendees who are intimidated by the massive list of films playing is Matt Rivera's blog, which has two excellent posts:
10 Movies Matt has already seen in the Sydney Film Festival
Thoughts on the Festival program
From our own Orble network, JohnDoe reminds us that the festival is showing a retrospective on Deborah Kerr, including "Black Narcissus" and "From Here to Eternity":
Deborah Kerr Cinema Tribute
If you're like me, the closer we get to the festival, the more you can feel the air alight with ionic energy, charged particles racing through the city as Australia's film heavyweights descend on the Harbour City for two weeks of gluttonous cinema-revelry. We're like pigs rolling in the mud, except somehow it feels more decadent to be human.
As I gear up my schedule for the film festival, are there any requests for reviews or events? Suggestions welcome down in the comments!

I am still waiting on seeing the programme...
So, I'll leave it in your capable hands Cibby! Although, it would be good to do reviews showing a good cross section of countries and cultures, particularly any new comers to the festival.
Wish I was there with you, grabbing a coffee and a snack between films while discussing what we saw!
Its been years since I went to a festival, so many cannot remember!
I ordered the festival porgramme at least..hehe! If I am lucky, and you intend seeing the same film, maybe we can meet up? A lot of "ifs" to conquer though...dammit!!
Should be a wonderful experience!
ENJOY!!!

Louie, sometimes it's hard to get past apathy and get to the festival - but you know you'll enjoy it!

I loved reading all the Carlos Castaneda novels, The Teachings of Don Juan etc, (but was it real?) Anyway, so I'd certainly be up for a Mexican film. Any good French ones on show?
When is Silent Night on by the way?
cheers

Unfortunately, media passes only include one ticket, so guests have to buy their own ticket...
